A report on the Ministry of Business Developments website says;
The Ministry of Business Development (MoBD) has today 11th July, 2019 in Accra launched the ‘Season Two’ of its flagship initiative The Presidential Pitch Competition which is aimed at realizing government’s ambition of helping to unleash an entrepreneurial revolution in the country.
The project is in line with the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s, vision of assisting young entrepreneurs to incubate their business ideas and improve livelihoods.
Speaking at the launch, the sector Minister Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal said, Ghana as a nation has a largely youthful population with over 200,000 graduates.
Out of this number, only 10% of them are employed into the public sector with the rest struggling to get a job, a situation which according to the Minister is alarming.
“The President therefore decided that entrepreneurship is the way out to solve youth unemployment and that’s why he created this ministry. Our mandate is to deepen entrepreneurship culture and build entrepreneurs out of young people”, Dr. Awal disclosed.
He said, the Presidential Pitch competition is another initiative by the current administration to curb unemployment rate in the country by supporting young entrepreneurs with funding for free.
Dr. Awal urged Ghanaian entrepreneurs below 35 years irrespective of ones educational background to apply for the competition and be assured of Government and his Ministry’s support with funds when selected.
“The only way we can tap into this big market and opportunity is to prepare our young people to be entrepreneurs so that their products will not only meet local requirements but global standards; hence the idea of presidential pitch ”, he added.
This year’s competition will take place on the 16th August, 2019. Entrepreneurs are to log on into the Ministry’s website at www.mobd.gov.gh and fill in the application form latest by 25th of July, 2019.
Five out of ten runner-ups from last year’s competition were presented with laptops as a fulfillment of the promise made to them.
With about 2,000 applications received last year, 20 proposals were selected at the end of the process, with the 20 successful applicants given mentors and attached to various businesses, and with the others stationed at the Ministry of Business Development’s incubator hubs.
